
Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has assented to the Appropriation Bill of 2023 presented to him by the state Speaker, Engr. Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari with an increase of 23 billion.
The governor signed the budget during the Weekly Executive Council Meeting held at the Government House, Executive Chamber, last week. Shortly after the signing, Governor Ganduje expressed his happiness that the budget has been deliberated and finally approved.
“This important budget of N268 billion is tagged: ‘Budget of Consolidation,’ with which the capital projects are going to be completed and the new ones are also going to be completed by the incoming administration.
“This budget is so important because many of our capital projects will be completed during the tenure and a lot of initiatives have been put into the budget and the new ones.
“I am so happy that as a deputy governor, I witnessed my former governor's signing of the budget for eight years, and now as a governor, I also administered the signing of the budget for eight years. “So, I am so honoured to be in this council chamber. “I spent over 20 years in this chamber.
Some 25 years, I could still sight my sit in this chamber as honourable commissioner and member of Kano State Executive Council for six years and I was here as deputy governor for eight years and I am here as executive governor for another eight years,” the governor said.
He also acknowledged the good relationship between the House and the executive, appreciating their support and effort in the chamber.
Governor Ganduje has also assured the Assembly that the budget would be followed up to the latter, adding that the administration would continue to provide social services to the teeming populous of the state.
On his part, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari, applauded Governor Ganduje for his efforts on capital projects in the state. He described the governor as one of the best governors who tirelessly show concern to the good citizens of the state.
It could be recalled that, on November 4, 2022, Governor Ganduje presented an aggregate sum of N 245, 31,516.08 as the proposed budget for next year’s fiscal year before the House.
Meanwhile, Kano State House of Assembly has passed the 2023 proposed budget worth N268, 197,731 into law.
Disclosing the passage, shortly after the lawmakers deliberated the bill in the Committee of the Whole House (secret sitting) yesterday, Speaker Chidari, said all the sections of the bill were thoroughly scrutinized.
The Speaker revealed that after due consideration with the inputs from the legislators as well as from the public, the budget was increased by over N23 billion against the initial proposal of over N245 billion.
The passage of the budget followed the adoption of a report presented by the chairman House Standing Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Abba Ibrahim Garko. During the session, Speaker Chidari requested the House Clerk, Alhaji Garba Bako Gezawa to move for the third reading of the bill and he did so.
Meanwhile, the House has adopted a report, in respect of the 44 local government councils’ 2023 estimate proposals. Presenting the report, Hon. Garko explained that the House constituted six ad-hoc committees, which deliberated and came up with an approved estimate of N251, 582, 364, 239, 14.
